I know so many of my friends wont be happy with what am going to write now but all the same I just have to…….

I will be travelling to Abuja on Saturday (yeah this week saturday) and this automatically means I wont be online constantly anymore and there will be no more constant blog updates as my computer in Abuja hasnt been connected to the internet yet.

Aside from the fact that I must go to Abuja this weekend, I must also go back there and prepare myself for higher institution (though the I havent seen the admission letter I strongly believe I made it).

I have to put my head into other things aside from blogging.

Tough I must say but I am growing and I must make few decisions which will hurt. :(

TOWARDS 2007 ELECTION IN NIGERIA (1)

Posted in Nigeria and Politics on October 24, 2006 by Queen Ebong

I have been pondering on this issue for quite sometime now and I have finally gathered some of my thoughts together.
For the time being I am only going to write on some of the political aspirants as I have not been able to gather all my thought into paper before putting it online.

DR. (MRS) DORA NKEM AKUNYILI – Presently the Director General of NAFDAC (National Agency for Food and Drug Administration Control). She has saved the economy from fake and substandard drugs. She has been the Director General of NAFDAC since 12th April 2001. If she is given the chance to rule this great nation Nigeria, I believe she will rule the nation and also continue her good works while ruling the country.

DONALD DUKE – The young handsome governor of Cross River State has been able to do an excellent job in Cross River State environmentally and tourism wise. I will definitely give him my vote if I have to because I believe he has what it takes to rule Nigeria.

REVEREND CHRIS OKOTIE – He is a man of God who made his intentions known in the year 2003 during the elections where he lost. Chris Okotie is out again for the elections to be held in 2007. Being that he is a Pastor, it is believed that he will lead this country according to God’s directions.

MALAAM NASIR EL-RUFAI - He is presently the Minister of FCT and he has been doing a great deal of clean up exercise in Abuja lately.
Though he is sanitizing the nation, so many have been rendered jobless and homeless and this is one major reason why he may not be voted into power come 2007.

Be There!

Posted in The World At Large on October 24, 2006 by Queen Ebong

The loving thing we can do when someone is in pain is to share the pain - to “be there,” even when we’ve nothing to offer except our presence, even when being there is painful to ourselves. .

Paul says that God “comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.”

One of the fastest and surest routes to spiritual health is taking the focus off ourselves and helping others. In fact we were born with a natural empathy for those who are hurting. Ever notice that babies in a nursery start crying when other infants cry?

Compassion, which literally means “to suffer with,” is the ability to be moved by the troubles of others. When we reach out from our own pain to help others it comes back to us in healing, fulfillment and a sense of worth. Jack Canfield says, “You take it all in. You let the pain touch your heart and you turn it into compassion. What a splendid way to go through life, bringing blessing to all we touch.” One cancer patient said, “What helps me most is just to have somebody try and understand what I’m feeling.” Another said, “Just sit here and let me hold your hand. It helps when someone’s close.”

Today ask God to make you more sensitive to the needs and hurts of those around you. And when He answers your prayer and puts someone into your path, don’t be too busy to care. In other words, “be there!”

My Phone - Becoming A Pain In My Butt

Posted in Personal on October 21, 2006 by Queen Ebong

For the past one week I have been borrowing charger from my uncle and sometimes from my friend to charge my phone. Why? because my stupid charger suddenly stopped working overnight
I use Siemens CF62

I have been forced to go about without carrying my phone(which I hate) and to make matters worse, charge the silly phone and it runs down completely at the end of the day.

Though I love this phone with all my heart cos my mum kind of suprised me with it. I carry it like a little baby :D

At times I miss my Sony Ericsson J210i which was given to me as a birthday gift(a phone that I used for up to 6 months before robbers came to my home and stole it)

At least am happy I got to pimp the phone a bit before it was stolen.

My Siemens CF62 is a great phone but damn it has too much wahala in it.
The phone freezes like a computer
The applications take forever to load

But I love the games tho, thats what interest me in a phone anyway. Plus I could use the phone with a camera only I need to buy enough cables :(

I just came to a realisation that I havent had up to 7hours sleep in the past two days and am like wow this isnt a good development on my side.

Each time I try to get some sleep, I get disturbed by kids playing and screaming the life of their lungs out(This annoys me)
at the end of the day I will not be able to get some rest and this causes me to get moody all the time with no particular reason.

Well, am hoping I will be able to work on my inabillity to sleep at night.

Facts On HIV/AIDS Crisis And Child Labour

Posted in The World At Large on October 19, 2006 by Queen Ebong

The HIV/AIDS pandemic adds a new and tragic dimension to the problem of child labour in many countries around the world. Millions of children have been orphaned by the death of one or both parents from HIV/AIDS. Millions more will be.

Many of these orphans find security in the households of relatives. Others, however, drop out of school and look for work to survive. An especially harsh burden is placed on girls, who often have to provide care and household services for the entire family when a parent becomes ill or dies. Even children cared for by grandparents or other relatives may have to work to help provide income for guardians and siblings.

High mortality among adults in their reproductive and productive prime (15-49 years) and the number of children growing up without a responsible guardian have complex inter-generational impacts on the world of work. With a lack of adult mentors and limited prospects for schooling, children miss out on the developmental skills and technical know-how needed to access decent work in their adult lives.

The impact of HIV/AIDS on communities and families undermines the process of socialization of children in its broadest sense, inverting care-giving roles and giving rise to social exclusion and loss of identity.

HOW THE HIV/AIDS CRISIS LINKS TO CHILD LABOUR
The HIV/AIDS crisis has a number of links to child
labour, for example it:
•Adds to the number of vulnerable children,
especially orphans and HIV-infected children;

•Increases demands on public and private
services, such as health care;

•Increases the burden on community groups and
institutions assisting both caregivers and
vulnerable children;

•Places an especially harsh burden on girls, who
often must provide care and household services
for the entire family;

•Puts pressure on children to work to assist their
parents, guardians and siblings in securing a
livelihood.

In addition, child labourers are more at risk of becoming infected by HIV/AIDS because they are often working in situations where they are vulnerable to sexual abuse.
This is particularly the case of children engaged in the worst forms of child labour, such as prostitution, street vending, and domestic work. Given their high proportion in prostitution, girls are especially at risk of becoming infected and further spreading the disease.

Key factors that increase a child’s Vulnerability to trafficking

  • Poverty and the need to earn a living or to support the family
  • The desire for a better life
  • Ignorance or lack of understanding of the children, parents or other caregivers of the negative
  • Consequences that may be associated with children leaving their homes to work
  • Lack of schools or means to pay for education
  • Lack of appreciation on the part of parents or children on the value of education
  • Family violence or other dysfunction
  • Political conflict or natural disasters that devastate local economies
