The Hustle and the Pains

When I got the phone call concerning the Post UME exams that I had to write in Jos, I came online to print out the instructions page so I could see what the requirements was. It was then that I realised that we(the students) needed to pay a certain amount of money to some banks which were listed on the instructions page and get an access code which we were supposed to use for the online registration.

I set off to the Bank on Monday morning as early as 7:30am  because I didnt want to stand on the usually long and annoying que in the bank.

I got to Oceanic bank first and I was told to go to their main branch in Wuse. I left the bank and took a bus to Wuse and that was just the beginning of my frustration.

To cut the long story short, in total I entered 11 different banks and none of them was able to give me the access code and their reason was because the school hadn’t given them instructions at that moment and they also said if we were allowed to pay up, the access codes we will be given will be useless.

So I gave up and prepared to leave for Jos the next day because I knew I will find a bank that was instructed to give out the access code. But when I got to Jos, a MILLION AND ONE students were looking for the same thing. At about 8am in the morning, the banks looked as if soldier ants had invaded the whole premises.

It actually took me THREE days to get the access code and complete the registration.

And then came another problem.

On the day of the exam, we went to the venue of the exams, expecting to be through by 4pm at most but what greeted us was beyond our expectations.

The first paper which was English Language was brought at about 12:30pm and started the exam at 12:50pm, we eventually finished by 2pm and we waited for the second paper but we waited in vain till 7pm when we were asked to come back the second day to complete our exams.

It was so sad because so many students couldnt get back to their various homes because the city of Jos have a curfew of 7pm for commercial vehicle and motorcycle operators.

It was a really bad day for so many students including me as we began to find our way back to our various homes.

Really I hope this sort of thing doesnt happen again.

The Post UME results is due to be out in 2 weeks,

I am getting into the Higher Institution this year,

NOTHING IS GONNA STOP ME FROM ACHIEVING THAT DREAM

I was in the bank a few days ago when I got a phone call from a friend notifying me of the upcoming Post UME exam that will be taking place in Jos. Since he couldnt pr0vide me with any other meaningful info, I had to come online and check for the requirements.

At the moment I am putting together the necessary documents needed for the exams as I will be leaving the FCT on tuesday.

The exam for my department is on Thursday. I will be there for a week in order to get all the information that I need.

GOD HELP ME

Problems?

So I have a big problem with my CPU about a week after getting internet connected at home.

Because of constant power outtage, I have to re-install windows because one of the files is curropt and my system cant even restart again.

Its been a bit stressful this days as I have been lazing about my house praying Ahmadu Bello University Zaria calls of their strike and release the last Post Ume result so we can all know if we need to seek greener pastures.

I pray the whole problem gets over soon as I am getting anxious to see how I performed. I am also so anxious to get into school and begin lectures.

University of Jos which was my second choice of school hasnt said anything about new students aspiring to study in their educational environment.

Its kind of sad when you look at all this and think you might never get into higher institution, let alone graduate.

But, I will never loose faith. I believe I will get in there THIS YEAR.

THE FUTURE OF UNDERGRADUATES IN NIGERIA

It is the dream of every student to proceed immediately to higher institution right after secondary education. However, most students dream doesn’t come true as they wish because the educational system in the country is deteriorating by the second. In this era of advanced technologies, we have so many brilliant students who graduate out of secondary school with extra-ordinary results, even in their JAMB exams but they are not always given the opportunity to experience the other side of education. Most times, it’s the people who occupy higher positions in the nation or in the school that manipulate students result. They sell out the best results of outstanding students to people who probably didn’t take the exam at all. There are times where you have your subjects wrongly recorded and when you make an attempt to seek correction, they simply IGNORE your complaints. This happened to my elder brother last year. We both took JAMB exams and when the results were released, I checked mine and I was pleased. However, when my dear brother checked his, his realized they had recorded the wrong subjects for him. Note that he applied for Science courses and took science subjects in the examination, but he realized that the subjects that were recorded for him were strictly Art subjects and Art courses. He contacted JAMB via E-mail and a letter but he got no response. He had to take the exam again this year. Basically all this drama could be curbed and things could get better, and brilliant students can get their deserved admission if the authorities will do the right thing by avoiding bribe, manipulating innocent students’ results and giving admission to students who truly deserve it regardless of their modernity or background whether rich or poor. It truly hurts to see a really brilliant student with all A’s in SSCE sit back at home for years all because he cant gain admission into higher institution due to illegal processes going on in schools. EDUCATION IS FREEDOM
