THE FUTURE OF UNDERGRADUATES IN NIGERIA

Posted in Nigeria and Politics on October 2, 2007 by Queen Ebong

It is the dream of every student to proceed immediately to higher institution right after secondary education. However, most students dream doesn’t come true as they wish because the educational system in the country is deteriorating by the second. In this era of advanced technologies, we have so many brilliant students who graduate out of secondary school with extra-ordinary results, even in their JAMB exams but they are not always given the opportunity to experience the other side of education. Most times, it’s the people who occupy higher positions in the nation or in the school that manipulate students result. They sell out the best results of outstanding students to people who probably didn’t take the exam at all. There are times where you have your subjects wrongly recorded and when you make an attempt to seek correction, they simply IGNORE your complaints. This happened to my elder brother last year. We both took JAMB exams and when the results were released, I checked mine and I was pleased. However, when my dear brother checked his, his realized they had recorded the wrong subjects for him. Note that he applied for Science courses and took science subjects in the examination, but he realized that the subjects that were recorded for him were strictly Art subjects and Art courses. He contacted JAMB via E-mail and a letter but he got no response. He had to take the exam again this year. Basically all this drama could be curbed and things could get better, and brilliant students can get their deserved admission if the authorities will do the right thing by avoiding bribe, manipulating innocent students’ results and giving admission to students who truly deserve it regardless of their modernity or background whether rich or poor. It truly hurts to see a really brilliant student with all A’s in SSCE sit back at home for years all because he cant gain admission into higher institution due to illegal processes going on in schools. EDUCATION IS FREEDOM

Temporary Motorcycle Ban in Calabar?

Posted in Nigeria and Politics on January 18, 2007 by Queen Ebong

Just last week, the Governor of Cross River State, Donald Duke banned commercial motorcyclists in Calabar. Why? Because he had asked all commercial motorcyclists to register with a sum of fourteen thousand, five hundred naira to belong to a certain governmental body. This money is to provide 2 helmets, a vest and someother thing which I really cant remember now.

Now my beef is how can the Governor ban motorcyclists in Calabar when that is virtually the only comfotable means of transportation in the city?

The whole city has been thrown into a marathon state. I mean everyone has to walk to wherever he or she is going to. I pity the school children most as they have to walk a distance to school and walk back home again. Its pathetic to see this everyday.

These motorcyclists can barely keep up with constant rise of expenses in their homes, they can barely send their kids to school even if they badly want their kids to be educated and have a bright future, they cannot even afford three-square meals, some of them do this business to put themselves through school as no one is responsible for their education. How then are they supposed to afford fourteen thousand, five hundred naira every year for the Government?

Before enforcing the ban, he never made alternative provision for transportation in the city. Sometimes I wonder if he is trying to do what the President has done in Abuja without the necessary funds.

Its so sad

TOWARDS 2007 ELECTION IN NIGERIA (1)

Posted in Nigeria and Politics on October 24, 2006 by Queen Ebong

I have been pondering on this issue for quite sometime now and I have finally gathered some of my thoughts together.
For the time being I am only going to write on some of the political aspirants as I have not been able to gather all my thought into paper before putting it online.

DR. (MRS) DORA NKEM AKUNYILI – Presently the Director General of NAFDAC (National Agency for Food and Drug Administration Control). She has saved the economy from fake and substandard drugs. She has been the Director General of NAFDAC since 12th April 2001. If she is given the chance to rule this great nation Nigeria, I believe she will rule the nation and also continue her good works while ruling the country.

DONALD DUKE – The young handsome governor of Cross River State has been able to do an excellent job in Cross River State environmentally and tourism wise. I will definitely give him my vote if I have to because I believe he has what it takes to rule Nigeria.

REVEREND CHRIS OKOTIE – He is a man of God who made his intentions known in the year 2003 during the elections where he lost. Chris Okotie is out again for the elections to be held in 2007. Being that he is a Pastor, it is believed that he will lead this country according to God’s directions.

MALAAM NASIR EL-RUFAI - He is presently the Minister of FCT and he has been doing a great deal of clean up exercise in Abuja lately.
Though he is sanitizing the nation, so many have been rendered jobless and homeless and this is one major reason why he may not be voted into power come 2007.
